Funding
Funding bids…so much work goes into them, but as they are highly competitive they are rarely successful. The list of things I’ve applied for is quite long, so here’s the list of what worked out!
Funding (full economic costing) An AHRC 4 year studentship for Lles: a Welsh Hub for Doctoral Focal Awards in the Arts and Humanities as part of a team of three supervisors and a doctoral candidate. The project is entitled Co-Creation of Creative Writing Interventions for Hospice and Palliative Care environment.
Funding (direct cots) the COST Young Researcher and Innovator Conference Grant to present at the International Women’s Writing Association Conference: Pleasure and Pain in Women’s Writing conference 2026.
Funding (full economic costing) from Irish Hospice Foundation for a project on media representations of dying and death in Ireland with Dr Ciara Henderson.
Funding (direct costs) from the Open University academic communities fund for a research planning morning and a public facing afternoon of talks on Sex and Death in Literature and Culture at Arnos Vale. This event involved working with colleagues within the Open University and at Falmouth University and Sheffield University, as well as with Arnos Vale to host the event.
Funding (direct costs) from Research England Participatory Fund. In October 2024 Dr Kay Calver and I were awarded funding from the Research England Participatory Fund for our Students on Screen project. Find out more at www.studentsonscreen.com.
Funding (full economic costing) from The Centre for Death and Society, the University of Bath for a special episode of The Death Studies Podcast featuring Professor Tony Walter and the delivery of an academic podcasting workshop.
Funding (direct costs) from the AUA (Association of University Administrators, now re-branded as AHEP the Association for Higher Education Professionals). This was awarded in 2011 for a project on their CPD Framework entitled ‘The Role of Administrators in Conducting Effective Field Boards of Examiners: Analysing Confidence, Understanding and Application’.

Best Paper by Postgraduate Student, MeCCSA Media, Communication & Cultural Studies Conference 2016 For a paper on young people & community leadership
IARS’ 2012 Research & Leadership Awards: Partnership Award of the Year For a voluntary project bringing together the University of Bedfordshire with businesses & charities to run confidence building workshops for school leavers
Writing Awards
Award: Honorable Mention New Writers’ Autumn Micro-fiction Competition 2023 My entry Statement by the Defendants, 31 October 2023 received an honourable mention.
Award: Shortlist for the New Writers’ Poetry Competition 2023 My entry entitled No Added Sugar was shortlisted in the top ten entries for the inaugural New Writers’ Poetry Competition by head judge Andy Craven-Griffiths from 600 poems.

Fellowships
Fellowship I’m a Senior Fellow of the HEA (Higher Education Academy). I was awarded Senior Fellow of Higher Education Academy in 2016 & I’ve been a Fellow since 2014.
Fellowship I have been a fellow of the RSA (The Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufacture and Commerce) since 2012.
Visiting Research Fellowship I am a Visiting Research Fellows at the University of Bath’s Centre for the Study of Death & Society, having been awarded the position in 2020.
Early Career Visiting Research Fellowship I understook a Visiting Early Career Research Fellowship at the Culture-Media-Text Research Centre, Faculty of Arts 2020-2022, where I delivered postgraduate training & support sessions
